Getting Inspired with Roses and Rosé, Ladyfolk Studio Watercolor and Wine Workshop Laguna Beach

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon when we gathered in the garden at Soul Project in Laguna Beach. The mission, get creative with watercolor painting roses and sipping a variety of Rosé wine. Fleur de Sel cookies were the perfect accompaniment to it all thanks to Summer’s Table. Scroll down to see more of the creative process and how we were all inspired.

We started this Watercolor and Wine workshop with what I like to call warm-up exercises. Each element of painting the rose was broken down into to simple steps. I always like to give my attendees a couple ways of completing a painting. With the roses there was three techniques and they could pick which ever one they felt most confident and comfortable with to compete their final rose painting. After going over materials, use of color and rose techniques we went over a few basic ways to paint leafs as well. You can see my clipboard below with the instructional warm-up pages and what follows is the attendees work in progress. You can already see how quickly they picked up on painting from my simple step by step instructions.

I love the warm-up exercises to get everyone started on their creative journey for the workshop. One is able to discover how to hold the brush and get just the right ratio of paint to water. I always say the key word in ‘watercolor” is “water.” For my workshops we use watercolor cakes so the paint is dry to begin and you really need to add water to get the pigment to flow onto the page. This is why the warm-up exercises are so important to discover this. Once the technique is established the painting process quickly turns from figuring it out to a more meditative state where attendees are able to just flow with the organic nature of watercolor. Repetitive shapes and motions ease the mind into a tranquil state.

Roses and Rosé is coming to you! #galentinesday

I put together a special Roses and Rosé @watercolorandwine private workshop package for the next month. Available until FEBRUARY 18TH and for OC LOCATIONS ONLY.

Grab a group of your friends for a fun night in painting roses on watercolor cards to give to your loved ones this Valentines Day or at a later date, like for a birthday or thank you card. You pick the workshop spot (i.e.home, business, clubhouse etc.), and I bring all the FUN supplies and instruction. Alot of you have requested this private watercolor and wineworkshop that I hosted for @sivanayla so now is your chance! The only difference is instead of just painting on sheets of watercolor paper we will be painting on watercolor cards so you can give them out. I will have blank white envelopes for your cards as well. You can paint on the envelopes, I use a very specific technique which i can show you during the workshop.

DETAILS FOR THE ROSES AND ROSÉ PRIVATE WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP

For $250.00 the price includes:

A private workshop at your selected location (i.e.home) for you and five of your friends, 6 total guests. Each additional guest over 6 count is for $30/each additional person.
Supplies for painting to include: watercolor paper, individual masonite drawing boards for work surface, mason jars for painting water, masking artist tape, a pencil with eraser, a variety of watercolor brushes and watercolor paint.
Watercolor calligraphy place settings for each guests, must submit names atleast 3 days prior to event.
two complimentary bottles of Rosé (you supply the rest!)
Inspiring mood board and a bouquet of roses as a still life for inspiration
60 minutes of instruction from Laguna Beach artist and LCAD instructor, Kimberly Heimbach

Last Friday night (cue Katy Perry song)...We sipped Rosé and painted pretty roses with Sivan Ayla and friends!

Thank you to blogger Sivan Ayla for having me over for girls night in at her picture perfect abode in Los Angeles. Sivan had the Rosé Miraval chilled and ready to go when I arrived. Also setup was a beautiful spread of food dubbed "girl food" including my personal fave with a glass of wine, a charcuterie and cheese plate.

I setup the workshop on Sivan's dining room table for the 9 guests that would soon arrive. The seating was easy to arrange with the custom watercolor place cards and wine cork holders I handmade for each of Sivan's guests. Creating a beautiful scene is part of my enjoyment of hosting workshops, it's all about the details! The watercolor name cards are just part of the special art Sivan's friends got to take home after the workshop that evening.

Each of my private watercolor workshops is completely custom to your needs. For Sivan, the Roses and Rosé was the perfect way to enjoy the abundance of pretty pink Miraval Rosé wine she had at home. It was girls night in, but you can also have me over to host a watercolor workshop for a baby shower, date night, dinner party, birthday, bridal shower, kids birthday or bachelorette party! I created the mood board you see above specifically for Sivan Ayla's workshop to show different ways of watercolor painting simple roses and how you can complete a beautiful painting in just two hours. We covered the basics of color mixing, wet into wet techniques and how to hold your brush to get the perfect petals and leafs. I think all the paintings turned out beautiful but you can scroll down and see for yourself! You can also purchase a print of the Rosé wine bottles in the shop.
